Kőszeg is located in Hungary, in the Western Transdanubian region, on the western edge of Vas county, along the Austrian border, 260 km west of Budapest, 18 km north of Szombathely and 110 km south of Vienna. It is the centre of the Kőszeg sub-region and the Kőszeg Landscape Protection Area.

Car: The easiest way to reach Kőszeg by road is from Szombathely via road 87 or from Austria via the nearby S31 motorway.

Parking: Parking is available in the centre of Kőszeg during the day on weekdays for a fee. Parking tickets can be purchased at the ticket machines.

Train: The most convenient way to get to Kőszeg by public transport is by train, with a stop in Szombathely. From Budapest there are trains approximately every two hours, from Vienna several times a day. The station is about a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.
